How do I print and apply EzLabels to clothing?

EzLabels™ are a woven polyester fabric coated on the front-side for printing in a Dot-Matrix printer using PermaWash™ ink and coated on the back-side with a thermal glue for permanent application to any fabric.

PermaWash™ Ink is a dye-sublimation ink that will sublimate into the polyester fabric in 4 seconds at 340 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the ink has sublimated into the fabric it will withstand 50 commercial washings including stain removers and bleach.

The thermal glue applied to the back of EzLabels™ will permanently bond with the label and the fabric onto which the label is applied when heat-sealed at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 seconds at 100 pounds of pressure.

For application with an EzPress™, PopUpPress, or any heat seal press, set the press to 370 degrees F and the cycle timer to 7 seconds. Verify that you have at least 100 pounds of pressure when the platen is locked down. An easy test is to insert a business card between the upper and lower platens and latch the lever down. Then try to pull the card out. If you can pull the card out, you do not have enough pressure – consult the manufacturer.

EzLabels™ may be applied with a hand-iron but each hand-iron is different and the user must test the iron to determine the application time. To test your iron set your iron to the highest setting (usually cotton) and with no steam. Preheat your iron for at least 15 minutes before applying your first label. To apply the label, place a piece of high-temperature foam rubber (available from EzProducts) on a firm surface (do not use an ironing board). Place the garment over the rubber pad and center the label over the bump created by the rubber pad. Press the iron firmly on the label for 10 seconds. If the iron has steam holes, press the label in an area where there are no holes. When your first label has been pressed for 10 seconds, allow it to cool to room temperature, then try to pick it loose. If you can lift even a tiny corner, you need more time, try 12 seconds. Repeat this procedure until you have determined the proper time to apply a label with your iron. Then, apply all labels for the time that you have determined is satisfactory. Note: some hand-irons require 20 seconds to apply an EzLabel™l.

Properly applied EzLabels are guaranteed to withstand 50 commercial washings and dryings.

How do I print and apply TrackIt Labels to clothing?

TrackIt Labels are made from a thermoplastic film formulated to bond with any fabric as well as PermaWash Ink. TrackIt Label Cartridges containing a roll of label material and a roll of PermaWash ink are available for most hand-held label printers. Rolls of TrackIt Labels and PermaWash ink are available for most desktopThermal Transfer Printers.

The PermaWash Ink is a dye-sublimation ink that will sublimate into the thermoplastic film in 4 seconds at 340 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the ink has sublimated into the film it will withstand 300 commercial washings including stain removers and bleach as well as 100 dry-cleanings.

The thermoplastic film used in TrackIt Labels will permanently bond with the fabric onto which the label is applied when heat-sealed at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 seconds at 100 pounds of pressure.

TrackIt Labels can be temporarily applied at 340 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 seconds. Temporary application of TrackIt Labels will withstand 50 commercial washings and dry-cleanings and can be easily pealed off leaving no visible residue.

To apply the label, place a piece of high-temperature foam rubber (available from EzProducts) on a firm surface (do not use an ironing board). Place the garment over the rubber pad and center the label over the bump created by the rubber pad. Cover the label with a piece of Teflon cloth (available from EzProducts) then press the iron firmly on the label for 10 seconds. Note: some hand-irons require 20 seconds to apply an TrackIt™ Label.

How do I mend fabric with an EzPatch?

EzPatches are made from a spun Polyester mat and with thermal glue is applied to the back side of the patch.

To mend small rip or tare, cut a small piece of the EzPatch about 1 inch longer and 1 inch wider than the rip or tare. Use charcoal EzPatch for black, blue and other dark fabrics. Use clear EzPatch for all other colors and patterns.

Place a small pad made from high temperature foam rubber (available from EzProducts) on a firm surface. Do not use an ironing board. Center the piece of EzPatch, with the glue side up, on the rubber pad. Center the rip or tare over the EzPatch and align the pattern of the fabric. Use a hand-iron set to cotton with no steam to “tack" the pattern in place while you align it.

Once the pattern has been properly aligned, iron the patch for 20 seconds, then turn it over and iron the back of the garment for an additional 20 seconds.

If using an EzPress, or PopUpPress, align the fabric as described above and tack it with a hand-iron. Then permanent seal the patch with the Press for 20 seconds at 270 degrees.

A properly applied EzPatch is almost invisible and can withstand 50 commercial washes and dry-leanings.

How do I apply embroidered emblems to fabric?

Embroider Emblems with a thermal glue applied to the back can be permanently applied to any fabric using an EzPress or a PopUpPress.

Set the EzPress or PopUpPress to 400 degrees for 15 seconds. (Some emblems can be applied at a lower temperature and for less time. Check with the emblem supplier correct application times and temperatures.)

Center the area where the emblem is to be applied over the lower platen of the EzPress or PopUpPress. Center the emblem over the bump created by the lower platen. Seal the emblem for 15 seconds at 400 degrees.

Always test your first emblem application by letting it cool to room temperature and trying to pick the edge loose from the fabric. If you can pick even a small area loose, it is not properly applied. Try more time or a higher temperature.

To apply emblems in a shorter time and at a lower temperature, pre-heat the emblems. Use an Teflon coated electric griddle or Teflon coated electric frying pan set to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place a 10 to 15 emblems upside down (glue side up) on the hot surface of the griddle or frying pan for approximately 10 minutes. The glue will become soft and tacky. It will stick gently to your finger when you touch the back of the emblem when the temperature is correct. Do not heat the emblem hot enough to burn your finger, just hot enough to soften the glue. Place the emblem with the warm tacky glue on the garment and seal it with an EzPress or a PopUpPress for 8 to 10 seconds. Try to pick the emblem off when it has cooled and adjust your application time or temperature to make it stick properly.

EzPress / PopUpPress Troubleshooting

EzPress model 5 and 6, PopUpPress model 5 and 6 -Hot Platen is cold or too hot.

Turn the EzPress or PopUpPress on and verify that the Power-On light is on. If not trouble shoot the power problem. If the Power-On light is on, turn the temperature knob or screw counter clockwise and observe that the Temp-Ok light comes on. Then turn the temperature knob or screw clockwise and observe that the Temp-OK light goes off.

If the Temp-Ok light cycles properly, adjust the thermostat clockwise until the thermostat indicates the proper temperature.

If the Temp-OK light does not cycle properly as indicated above, the thermostat and/or the heater is defective. Remove the cover from the upper platen, then remove the wires from the thermostat. Using an ohm-meter, measure the resistance between the two thermostat terminals. A good thermostat will indicate no open (high resistance) when the knob is turned all the way counter-clockwise and a short, (low resistance) when the knob is turned all the way clockwise. To test the heater, measure the resistance across the two wires with the thermostat disconnected. On a Model-2,3 & 4 EzPress or PopUpPress, a good heater will read 45 to 55 ohms. On a Model-5 EzPress or PopUpPress, a good heater will read 70 to 80 ohms.

On Model-5 EzPresses and PopUpPresses only, a thermal fuse is installed at the end of on of the heater wires. This thermal fuse should read a short (low resistance) when it is good and open (high resistance) when it is bad.

All of the above components are available from EzProducts.
